Viewing Room Overview
At Anime Banzai, we have two viewing rooms that we keep open during
normal convention hours and until midnight on Friday and Saturday.
While we like to emphasize newer, High-Definition titles, we also show
older titles to give variety to our schedule.
We know that some people don't like dubbed anime, just as others don't
like subtitles. In order to provide shows for as wide an audience as
possible, we show both subtitled and dubbed anime at Anime Banzai.
There are many places where you can express your opinion in the "Subs
vs. Dubs" debate - the Viewing Rooms are not among them. Please be
respectful of others by not debating this in the viewing rooms, and
keep in mind that the decision to show a title subbed or dubbed is as
much part of the schedule as the time it is being shown.
In keeping with the "family friendly" theme of Anime Banzai, content in the viewing
rooms is generally kept within the standards of PG-13. This standard is for content actually shown
at the convention, ie. for a series with stronger content later on, we may show the first few episodes
if the content of those episodes falls within the general PG-13 standard. We also maintain the right
to "selectively censor" brief scenes in shows, especially imported titles that do not necessarily
follow US ratings standards. We try to keep such instances to as few as possible, in order to preserve
the artistic integrity of the show. In cases where we do this, we will inform the audience ahead of
time.
Viewing Room Rules
Here are a few rules we ask everyone to follow, to make the viewing
room experience better for everyone:
Be respectful - People are in the viewing room to watch anime, and
voice acting and music are often key parts of presentation. Please
don't spoil it by talking during a show. There may be some shows
where "viewer commentary" is allowed or encouraged; these will be
clearly marked on the door when you enter.
Step inside - We don't mind "door surfing," but find that it tends to
block other people trying to enter or leave. If you're going to stop
to see what's playing, please, step inside and sit down for a minute
or two. We won't get angry if you decide not to stay.
No food or drink - Pocky and ramune are great, but don't mix well with
electronics. Please finish your snacks outside. The convention
center will provide a water cooler in each viewing room, as hydration
is important here in Utah. If you need some water feel free to get
some, but please finish it in the back by the cooler before returning
to your seat.
No unattended children - The viewing rooms are not a baby-sitting
service. While we strive to maintain an overall "family friendly"
convention, some shows in the viewing rooms may portray
ideas/situations you may not wish your child to see. We strongly
encourage responsible parental oversight of children, and will contact
convention Security if a child is found unattended.
Late Night Viewing Room
Between the hours of 10:00PM and 12:00AM on Friday and
Saturday, Twilight 3 becomes a "Late Night" viewing room. While we tend to keep
content in the viewing rooms limited to PG-13 at the most for most hours of the
convention, during the late night viewing block we show titles with more mature
content. During the Late Night viewing block, entry to Twilight 3 will be
limited to individuals who are 18 years or older. A form of identification showing
age will be required for entry.
While Twilight 3 will be reserved for "Late Night" viewing, Twilight 4 will continue
with the normal "PG-13 at most" schedule.
And to be clear, "mature content" does not mean "free for all Hentai-fest."
It mostly includes strong violence, swearing, and adult content as commonly found in R-rated movies.
Sorry if that may disappoint some of you, but we are still in Utah after all...
