Iron Fan Art

Rules
The judges will give out a different theme each time Iron Fan Art is
held. Participants then have 45 minutes to draw something related to
this theme, in color or black & white. (Drawing materials will be
provided.) At the end of this each participant must sign the back of
the picture and turn it in to the judges, who will keep them and
either scan or take pictures of the art. A group of judges will
select the winner, and prizes will then be awarded. Prizes will be
art related, like an art book or art supplies.

After the con the organizer will put it all up on a photobucket and
link it on the Anime Banzai forums (and maybe the website).

All topics are open for the fan art, but there are four restrictions:
1: Keep it all-ages appropriate .
2: It must be completed in 45 minutes, no more.
3: No talking while drawing.
4: No looking at others' art until after it's over.

If you have THREE, you will not be considered. Teams must be in pairs! (Exceptions CAN be made for "summons" or other creative elements, but those MUST be brought to my attention at the time of sign up.)

• Sign up Friday Evening at the convention is mandatory if you have not signed up online. There will be NO exceptions. Stats will be decided at this meeting and rules will be outlined. If you signed up online, you should receive an email with details regarding the mandatory meetup to determine your stats. If you miss this, you are OUT. • Players MUST be in cosplay to participate. That's why it's battle cosplay! Please be prepared to tell us about the character you are cosplaying as this affects their stats.

Cosplay Cafe' - Steampunk Saloon

That's right, the Cosplay Café will be returning again this year at our new venue! The theme this year will be a Steampunk Saloon and brings you the opportunity to come and serve or just come and enjoy yourself! We'll have all the usual offerings like Pocky, Ramune, Hello Panda, Calpico, and more new imported snacks for you to try!

For those interested in hosting at the café, read on! We need your help to make the cafe' a success! This year we're looking for all the Saloon girls, Cowboys, Mechanics, Goggled up Gear-toting cosplayers we can find! It's up to you to design your own Steampunk costume! Creativity is encouraged! We want to know what your "steampunk" interpretation of your favorite character is. What would Cloud wear if Midgar were a little more steampunk? What about a steampunk inspired Vocaloid? It's up to you! Original characters are also welcome, but all costumes should follow the steampunk theme as well as Banzai's dress code!

If you're interested in volunteering, please send the following information to events@animebanzai.org with the words "Cosplay Cafe Application" in the subject line:

Name: (real name please!)
Character: (who will you be cosplaying?)
Series: (what series are they from?)
Age: (applicants must be at least 16 years old!)
Experience: (have you worked for us before? are you reliable? tell us here!)
Please attach AT LEAST one photo of the cosplay you plan to wear OR recent cosplay you have completed/worn.

Anime Dating Game

Where all your favorite cross-over pairings come to life! Join in the fun or come and be entertained!

• Those wishing to participate as "players" in the dating game must be 18 years or older(so please bring ID!). You also must attend the "try-outs." This is to gauge your "improv" abilities and your ability to remain "in-character" (if you are cosplaying). We're looking for candidates who want to have fun and have lots of energy! Contestants won't be revealed until the actual game - come and see if you made it!

• At the game, contestants will be called up to the stage. There will be three rounds, each with two questions and a task.
- Questions will be dating-game style ie "If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?" or "What would you describe as the perfect date?"
- The task could be pretty much anything - you could be asked to sing, dance, tell a joke, do an impression, pose, anything! Be ready!

• Be in cosplay! - We want to see how you can react "in character" to the questions and challenges. Be creative! Have fun!

• Listen to the MCs and security. They are there to keep the game running smoothly and make sure everyone has fun. Don't hurt yourself, others, or hotel/banzai property! Be careful and remember that you are at a con, but that doesn't mean you aren't liable for what you do there!

• 18+! Even though the event is going to be for adults this year, please remember that what you do must still be legal in the state of Utah. No drugs, alcohol, nudity, etc. Thanks!

Masquerade Ball - Formal Dance - "Time after Time"

This year's theme is Time After Time! Victorian or Modern, chic and classy or slick and sassy, you won't want to miss a chance to dress in your best threads and dance the night away! Steampunk is the word of the day, so get out your toolkit and start cranking those costumes together! Don't forget, our dance is a formal affair, so please plan your costumes and attire accordingly! Refer to the dress-code below!

Dress code:
For Men or Male Cosplay -
- Slacks (no jeans, skater pants, etc. Must be dress pants)
- Shirts should be dress shirts or tuxedo shirts. (No polo or t-shirts)
- Military uniforms are also ok!

For Women or Female Cosplay
- Skirt, dress, or for tomboy-ish female characters, please keep to the same standards as male cosplay requirements. (ex. Sailor Uranus might be more likely to wear a tuxedo shirt and pants than a dress, which is ok! Same goes for guys, if you wanna wear dresses, make sure they adhere to the dress code!)
- Skirt/dress length should be down to your fingertips or longer. For dresses or skirts with side-slits, the slit should go no higher than where your wrist naturally falls at your side.

For both:
- No Tennis shoes or sneakers. Dress shoes please!

We do realize that not every female or male formal cosplay might fit into this dress code. So if you have questions, concerns, or a costume you feel is an exception to the rule, please email us ahead of time. As long as you can provide canon (either screenshots, screencaps, or images from manga) images of your character in the costume you wish to wear, we will be happy to make an exception(so long as the costume is still in keeping with the convention's existing cosplay and dress rules), but you must contact us ahead of time. If you show up at the convention without prior approval in your costume, it will be at the discretion of banzai security at the door.

Secret ballot judges will select a king and queen, to be announced at the start of the last hour. They will get a song, then the stage will be open for runway/walkons for those that want to display their costumes.

Banzai on Broadway

Alright all you Broadway Babies, here's another helping of musical theater coming your way! We need you, cosplayers, to make this happen! We're looking for musical numbers done in cosplay! They can be from your favorite anime musical, broadway musical, or just a song you thought fit your characters or group! Bleach is celebrating its ten-year anniversary this year, so the event is themed after the Bleach Musicals! Other anime are also fine, but the event will be hosted by some of your favorite shinigami! If you're interested in signing up, read on!

SIGN UPS:
Please send all entries to events@animebanzai.org with "Banzai on Broadway Entry" in the subject line. It should contain all of the following information:

- Your name (if in a group, please include the member names and group entry name)
- Name of the characters that will be in the number and the series, performance, or video game they are from.
- a short description of your act (what you'll be doing, what songs you'll sing, etc.)
- a copy of your music or audio. While it doesn't have to be included in the original email, you must get us the audio on or before September 20.
- There will be a rehearsal on Thursday night. You must be available for this (with the possible exception of out-of-staters. please include that information in your email if it will be an issue.)

SONG/ENTRY RULES
- whatever cosplay you are using should fit with the act you are performing (just being IN cosplay isn't quite enough. You should work to fit the song or act to your character. Having Naruto sing "The Phantom of the Opera" might be funny, but it doesn't really fit - unless you are altering the lyrics to better fit the character, in which case, that's totally fine!).
- PG ONLY. Family friendly convention = family friendly acts.
- Songs can be any language. Japanese, English, Korean, French, etc.
- Be Animated! (No pun intended) Act as your characters would. Move as they would. It makes for a much more entertaining show.
- Unfortunately, we are on a timetable. Please keep your acts to 5 or 6 minutes at most.
- Last, have fun!

One final note: Remember that this is a PERFORMANCE. Not a contest. We are here to entertain, not compete. If you just want to sing, participate in one of our karaoke events! If you just want to perform a skit, join the Cosplay Competition! If you want to put them together though, join Banzai on Broadway. We'd love to have you!

Cosplay Chess - Past, Present, and Future!

That's right, this year we're taking swords to a gunfight! Or... mecha-fight as the case may be. We want characters from the past (pre 1950 or an approximate equivalent) or the far distant future! (year 2050 or further would be awesome!) Costumes should be clearly from either a past or future setting! We want samurai, shinsengumi, ninja, victorian aristocrats, immortals from the prohibitionist era, medieval warriors, historical fiction, anything to represent the past on one team and then mecha pilots, laser guns, space suits, flying cars, synthesized vocal programs, gun-slinging zombies, space pirates, and more to represent the future! (If you fall somewhere inbetween, pick a side and tell us why you think they fit there!)

SIGN UPS WILL BE ONLINE ON THE FORUMS! WATCH FOR DETAILS AND FURTHER INFO!

• After time is up, models from each team will display their outfits down the runway for judging.

• Good sportsmanship is a MUST! Please be courteous to everyone and their created outfits. Anyone showing poor conduct will be warned only once. Further misconduct will result in their entire team's disqualification.
