Banzai Olympics

Do you love to cosplay?

Have you always wondered what it would be like to compete while in cosplay?

Well today is your lucky day!

This year we are holding the very first Annual Banzai Olympics! Over the summer, you could participate in Olympic events while in cosplay and go for the gold. We will be hosting and filming the following events:

  • Maid vs. Butler Baseball (July 14th)
  • Greatest Swordfighter Fencing (July 22nd)
  • 5-Man Anime Relay (July 29th)
  • Anime Aquatics Swimming (August 5th)
  • Anime on Ice (August 12th)

We will then screen the competitions at the 2018 Anime Banzai Convention.

If you would like to participate, you need to be available from 10:00am to 4:00pm on the day of the event you wish to be a part of and you must be in a cosplay that fits the event. These events are designed more for fun and roleplaying rather than competition, so you do not need to be skilled in the event you wish to participate. Below are the specifics for each event.

Maid vs. Butler Baseball – July 14th
As the name would imply, we are looking for maid and butler cosplayers to play baseball. The cosplay requirements are simple: either a maid or a butler cosplay. That’s it. Keep in mind the baseball diamond will be dusty, but no one is required to slide home if they don’t want to. We are hoping to get at least six (6) people per team, but would love to see full teams of nine (9).

Greatest Swordfighter Fencing – July 22nd
For this event, we’re holding fencing rounds. But instead of just one sword participants are allowed to use as many swords as their cosplay character would normally use, with a maximum of three (3) swords. A quick rundown of fencing rules will be given but then it’s up to the cosplayers. The cosplay requirements are simple: swordsman cosplay. We need four (4) cosplayers for this event.

5-Man Anime Relay – July 29th
This will be a team relay race to the finish with anime-themed obstacles. For those of you who do group cosplays, this is your time to shine. The cosplay requirements are simple: groups from the same anime, and make sure you can run. We are looking for a couple of teams with five (5) members each.

Anime Aquatics Swimming – August 5th
This will be a freestyle swimming race of one lap in a potentially Olympic-sized swimming pool. You do not have to be a good swimmer to compete, but you should definitely know how to swim a little if you want to participate here. The cosplay requirements are very loose for this event: aquatic characters or creatures, bathing suits, etc. If you’re not sure whether your cosplay will work or not, just ask. We are looking for four (4) cosplayers for this event.

Anime on Ice – August 12th
Is Yuri!!! On ICE one of your favorite anime? Then this event was made for you! Some skill is required for this event. The cosplay requirements are completely open: something you can safely skate in. Please cater your routine to your cosplay. We are looking for one (1) or two (2) people who have some skill in ice skating to do a routine.

If you are interested in participating in any of these events, please message Linda Caponigro Young or Daniel Shepherd on Facebook.

For anyone who doesn’t get to compete, we always love to have an audience for these events. Keep these dates open if you want to see these events filmed. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us on Facebook or the Events committee via the Contact Page.
